My first painting that engaged with synthesizing “old art” and “new art” by linking Old Masters’ works with new hybrid elements. Inspired by E. Delacroix, Femmes d'Alger dans leur appartement. Generally considered a major work of Orientalism, the original depicts North African women for a colonial male gaze. Placing the figure in a hybrid space, she now regards the contemporary viewer on her own terms.
